This is a reminder that the LOCSD Board of Directors declared a Stage III Emergency in May 2015 with an allocation of 50 gallons per person per day. Given our current drought conditions, the Stage III prohibitions will help all residents meet these goals. Below are highlights of the key prohibitions and more details about the Stage III emergency and water conservation can be found on our website.

• Outdoor irrigation is only allowed between dusk and dawn.

• Do not use potable water to wash sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, open ground and other hard-surface areas by direct application.

• Do not wash automobiles, unless you have an automatic shut-off hose nozzle and do not allow water to run off your property.

• Use of water which results in flooding or run-off in gutters or streets is prohibited.

• No new intent-to-serve applications will be considered.

By using water responsibly, we can make an enormous difference in protecting this resource for future generations. We estimate that watering the yard, filling hot tubs, washing cars and other outdoor water needs consumes over 25% of all the water used in a typical single-family home. By following simple outdoor water saving tips, you could save thousands of gallons every month.

For example, practice xeriscaping, which is simply landscaping with slow-growing, drought-tolerant plants to conserve water and reduce yard trimmings.

Using drought-tolerant plants is a way to plant a garden in a water-conscientious environment, but xeriscaping doesn’t mean planting California native plants only. While indigenous plants are naturally accustomed to local climates and good choices for water efficient landscapes, plants other than cacti and other succulents can withstand long periods with little water - think of the many colorful drought-tolerant plants native to Mediterranean climates.

The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) is a onetime assistance program designed to help households that are facing the threat of imminent disconnection, have already been disconnected, or have past due (arrearage) on Water or Wastewater bills.

To be eligible for assistance through LIHWAP, applicants must:

·         Be a San Luis Obispo County resident

·         Provide proof of State Identification/ Driver’s License

·         Receiving services from a Water or WasteWater system enrolled in the program (LOCSD is enrolled)

·         Be income eligible or household member is a current recipient of CALFRESH or CALWORKS

·         Have a past due amount on your water system or wastewater bill

Los Osos CSD is enrolled in LIHWAP. The state funds the program and the Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo (CAPSLO) is managing the program within our County.

 The Los Osos Community Services District Board of Directors is looking for two qualified individuals to fill vacancies on the Finance Advisory Committee. The Committee plays an important role of advising the Board by monitoring, reviewing, and commenting on District financial activities, such as spending, budgeting, long-term planning and more. The Committee benefits from a variety of perspectives, professional backgrounds, and skills of its members.
