Measure B-26 Approved by Los Osos Voters

On June 2, 2026, Los Osos voters approved Measure B-26, establishing dedicated funding to expand, maintain, and operate local parks, including the acquisition and conversion of the Sunnyside School property into a park and community resource.

Where Things Stand

With Measure B-26 approved, the Los Osos Community Services District is now working to determine the best method for acquiring the Sunnyside property.

The CSD recognizes that Sunnyside represents a unique opportunity for the Los Osos community and that the property may not remain as-is indefinitely. At the same time, the District wants to make sure the acquisition is structured responsibly and makes the best use of the funding approved by voters.

The CSD is currently evaluating acquisition and financing options and may need to continue negotiations with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District regarding the purchase of the property. Because those discussions are ongoing, the final acquisition structure, purchase terms, and schedule have not yet been determined.

The CSD is hopeful that the acquisition process and related negotiations can be completed by the end of fall 2026. Updates will be posted on this page as additional information becomes available.

Planning for Sunnyside

Community input and preliminary planning work conducted in 2025 helped the CSD better understand how residents would like to see the Sunnyside property used and developed.

That work was an important starting point, but it was not a final plan for the property. Some of the concepts developed during that process were based on assumptions and constraints being considered at the time. Those concepts should not be viewed as limiting what may ultimately be considered for Sunnyside.

Once the acquisition and related negotiations are sufficiently on track, the CSD intends to resume the master planning process. That next phase will include development of two important planning documents:

Parks and Recreation Needs Assessment
The Needs Assessment will look broadly at parks and recreation needs throughout Los Osos and help identify community priorities, service gaps, and opportunities for future programs and facilities.

Sunnyside Master Plan
The Sunnyside Master Plan will focus specifically on the future of the Sunnyside property. Through a public planning process, the CSD will evaluate potential recreational facilities, open space, buildings, community uses, circulation, infrastructure, phasing, funding, and other considerations needed to create a long-term plan for the site. It will also consider opportunities for recreational programming.

The Master Plan process will build on the community input already received while providing an opportunity to reconsider earlier concepts and explore additional possibilities for the property.

Sunnyside Master Plan Steering Committee

The planning process will be guided in part by a Sunnyside Master Plan Steering Committee made up of community members appointed by the LOCSD Board of Directors.

The CSD will establish an application process for residents and other interested individuals who would like to serve on the committee. The General Manager will review the applications and make recommendations to the Board of Directors, with the Board making the final appointments.

The CSD will announce the application period, committee structure, and anticipated schedule once the Sunnyside acquisition process is further along.

Sunnyside will be a significant community planning effort, and there will be multiple opportunities for residents to participate as the project moves forward.
